Used Tires And More

Sometimes car break down unexpectedly. Many people take them to the closest repair shop they can find, but this important decision should not be left to luck. The best thing to do is to start shopping for a repair facility before you need one. It is difficult and time consuming. By planning ahead, you can be sure that your car will be in capable hands when repairs are needed. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a non-profit and independent organization that tests and certifies auto service professionals. They offer tips on finding a good auto repair establishment.

1. Ask your friends and associates for their recommendations or consult local consumer groups.

2. Arrange for alternate transportation in advance so you will not feel forced to choose a shop based solely on location.

3. Look for a neat, well-organized facility with modern equipment and vehicles in the parking lot that are equal in value to your own.

4. Look for a courteous staff. The service consultant should be willing to answer all of your questions.

5. Ask about the shop’s policies regarding estimated repair costs, diagnostic fees, guarantees and acceptable methods of payment.

6. Ask if the repair facility usually handles your type of repair work.

7. Look for signs of profe

ssionalism in the customer service area such as civic, community or customer service awards.

8. Look for evidence of qualified technicians such as trade school diplomas, certificates of advanced courses and ASE certification.

Estimating Repair Costs

You should ask yourself if you were handed an estimate to replace a water pump on your car, and would you know if the price was fair? Could you trust the price? How about for a tie rod end, a mass air flow sensor, or an evaporative emissions sensor?
The majority of us don’t know what these are, or even mind the price. It is components such as these that are commonly used to overcharge you for the car repair. It is sad to say that we no longer live in an age of trust. How do we ensure that our auto repair costs are legitimate?

Here is a real life example from a so call “reputable…?” dealer. A client brought her Audi to an authorized Audi dealership for a standard timing belt maintenance service. The price for this service averages $1575 at the dealership level, (including pulleys, water pump, and more), and about $1275 at the independent repair shop level. Yet the woman left the dealer with a bill for $2025.68. What happened?

According to the repair order at the automobile repair shop, there were no abnormal circumstances, no problems noted by the technician such as rust or any other extenuating circumstances that would have perhaps increased the labor, or added additional parts.
In short, it was a straight forward service, but the bill was $450.68 higher than it should have been. There is simply no legitimate reason to have “that much” discrepancy. How’d they get away with it? The answer is very simple, and it’s a point that I don’t want anyone to miss: They get away with it because they can!

Think about it. The average person doesn’t know how much auto parts cost. And who knows how much labor time a repair should take? To what sources does one turn to find out this information? Who even has the time to investigate!
Upon examination of this woman’s repair order, it was found that she was charged a full 4 hours “more” than the standard labor time. At $100 per hour, this added an additional $400. The remaining $50.68 came from the parts, which were billed higher than MSRP. She was quoted $2,025 for a repair that tops out at $1575. The woman didn’t know. She just paid the bill and left.

How many times do folks just pay the bill and leave? Pretty much that’s all one can do given that there is no accessible information for the car repair customer to adequately question a repair bill. Furthermore, very few even know what questions to ask! You will need to be aware of the costs from other repair places. You will be guaranteed the quality of work that you get from Sierra Tire and Auto Repair will be great and you will be charged at a fair market place.

Ordering Tires From Auto Repair Shops

They go with us everywhere and they give a whole new meaning to the phrase of ‘being on the road.’ The tires on your car are literally ‘on the road’ everywhere you go and, when it comes time to change them, nothing but the best will do. The first step to choosing tires for your car is determining the style and size of your current tires and writing it down on a piece of paper.

When choosing tires for your car, two of the most important considerations are quality and warranty. When purchasing any new type of automobile equipment or parts, such as tires, you should receive a clear warranty from the manufacturer. In order for this to remain effective, you must keep the original purchase receipt and follow any instructions as provided with the purchase of your new tires.

When it comes to selecting a repair shop to order and install the tires, you will want to make sure that they offer quality service and have a reputation to match. When you are ready to purchase, call your local car repair shop and inquire about availability. If the tires that you need are in stock, the technicians may be able to service your car immediately. If they have to be ordered, you will be given a cost estimate and an expected date of arrival. On this date, you should plan to be available for taking your automobile into the shop for servicing.

When dealing with a transaction that involves both parts and labor, you will need to have a receipt that clearly shows the cost of the both the tires and the cost of the actual labor. This will help to eliminate any future disputes over a cost quoted and will make the transaction much smoother.

And finally, when choosing tires for your car and a repair shop to install them, you will want to choose a company that stands behind their work. If a car repair shop doesn’t offer any type of guarantee on their work, consider shopping around for another tire shop. As a customer, it will give you great peace of mind in knowing that your hard-earned money is well spent with a company who appreciates your business by standing behind their own.
